Each of these digital collages from my studio archive was made as a working study for my paintings. Each one is totally unique with its own paint spatters, small tears and creases. My digital collage archive goes back to 1999 – when I bought my first computer and learnt Photoshop. Each painting I do relates to many different exploratory collages, of which a few I print out. The ensuing paintings are never mirror copies of the collages but will retain some elements from them. My paintings develop over days and weeks with many changes, some very radical.
Of course my archive is extremely important to me and I refer to it periodically, sometimes being surprised by previously rejected ideas from years ago that turn out to be prescient to my current interests.
I’ve selected a handful of collages to share with my audience as artworks in their own right. Please note that these are NON archival working documents that can fade over time if exposed to direct sunlight.
